Virginia Stops Early Marriage

Years ago, early marriages were permitted in Virginia. Between the years 2004 and 2013, it was reported that more than 4,500 minors got married in the state. And of these minors, more than a hundred of them were actually 15 years old and below. Creepy, right?

And this year, the authorities of Virginia introduced a new legislation that updated the rules about the permission given to 12 or 13 year-old girls to marry if they had consent from their parents, or if they were pregnant. The update was aimed to stop forced marriage, human trafficking, and rape disguised as marriage.

In the picture, the girl was just 12 years old, and the man that she married was already a senior citizen. Yes, you read it right. There was a video where the man was questioned by some concerned citizens, who asked the little girl if she really wanted to marry the old man. Some even said that they will call the cops to get the man arrested, but the man ignored them, saying that the parents of the little girl gave him permission to marry her.

The Washington Post said that the legislation was the result of bills passed by politicians namely, Republican Jill Holtzman Vogel and Democrat Jennifer McClellan. Same bills were also introduced in other parts of the United States of America this year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Thanks to the politicians who worked hard to stop early marriage in Virginia, and in other parts of USA. May this be an inspiration to other countries around the world. And may other parents wake themselves up and realize how disgusting and disgraceful it is to let their little girls marry at the very wrong age.

NO TO EARLY MARRIAGE!
